ReStore, which is affiliated with Habitat for Humanity, accepts old wood cabinets, electrical fixtures, appliances and other used building materials. Wood - Mt. Taylor Machine, LLC now has a wood waste collection facility in Albuquerque’s South Valley. The material will be ground onsite and then shipped to the Grants/Milan area to be made into wood pellets, used for heating applications. Click here for more information.

Tires JaiTire takes old tires and recycles them into various size crumb rubber particles which are used in a variety of landscape materials and safety surfacing. IMPORTANT NOTE: Richem recycles all kinds of hazardous waste. But only for residents of Albuquerque and/or Bernalillo County. If you know someone who lives in ABQ or in Bernalillo County, you may be able to use their name and address when you drop off your recyclables.

Cell Phones: NMRC has selected the Second Chances thrift store as an excellent location to take cell phone donations. The cell phones are delivered to a respectable refurbisher and all cash proceeds are donated to Albuquerque Women's Community Association. Any brand and year cell phone and/or cell phone battery is accepted. Mail or drop off to Second Chances, 1301 San Mateo NE Suite C (Lomas & San Mateo), Albuquerque, NM 87110. Phone is 505-265-9233. You can also recycle your cell phone at Office Max right now in exchange for a free, ream of recycled-content paper or at Best Buy.

Computers and computer related hardware: Hewlett Packard has a marvelous recycling program which you can read about here http://www.hp.com/hpinfo/globalcitizenship/environment/recycle/. If you have any computer or computer related hardware, no matter who made it, HP will pick it up and repair or recycle it. They charge a nominal fee based on the number of items they are collecting and the weight. Then they dispatch UPS to your door to fetch the package. You even receive a gift certificate for your efforts.

Floppy Disks, CD-ROM/DVDs, and Video Tape: Green Disk accepts all of these items with their mail-in program. Go to www.greendisk.com or call 1-800-305-DISK. Disks are either refurbished and resold or properly recycled. GreenDisk sells recycled floppy disks and CD-ROMs.

Office Depot Offers Electronics Recycling from July 18 - September 6 Office Depot and HP have banded together to offer customers to drop off any brand of unwanted electronics at any of Office Depot's more than 850 retail locations in the continental United States.

Office Depot and HP will collect and recycle a broad range of information technology and digital entertainment products from any manufacturer, including desktops, notebooks, keyboards, mice, printers, scanners, handhelds, digital cameras, fax machines, desktop copiers, flat panel displays, monitors, TVs (27" or smaller), TV/VCR combos and cell phones. All products collected from Office Depot stores will be recycled at HP's U.S. recycling facilities in Roseville, Calif. and near Nashville, Tenn. Full program details, as well as in-store drop-off instructions and locations, are available at www.officedepot.com/recycle.

NOTE: The Office Depot electronics recycling may be continued. Call your local Office Depot to see if they are still accepting recycled materials.
